After reading “How to Become a Writer” by Lorrie Moore, Chapter 12, and watching the video, there were several details that stood out to me as particularly interesting or helpful. One detail that I found particularly helpful was Moore’s advice to “write as if you are in love” (Moore, 2019). This resonated with me because I have always found that my writing is at its best when I am passionate about the subject matter. Additionally, I found Moore’s suggestion to “write what you know, but make it fresh” (Moore, 2019) to be helpful because it emphasizes the importance of finding a unique perspective or angle on familiar topics. One detail from Chapter 12 that stood out to me was the idea that “good writers are also good readers” (Textbook, 2021). This makes sense to me because reading widely can expose writers to different writing styles, structures, and techniques that can help them improve their own writing. Additionally, reading can help writers develop their critical thinking skills, which are essential for producing well-written and thought-provoking work. The video featured author Elizabeth Gilbert, who shared her thoughts on the importance of finding one’s “voice” as a writer.
