The Impact of Social Media on Body Image and Disordered Eating in Female Athletes

“The Influence of Social Media on Female Athletes’ Body Image and Disordered Eating” Brief description: The goal of this research project is to evaluate the effect that social media plays in molding body image and disordered eating behaviors among female athletes. Specifically, the participants in this study are female athletes. This is a particularly pertinent problem in today’s society, as the use of social media has become more pervasive and important in moulding people’s impressions of themselves and others. According to the findings of a study that was conducted by Smith & Jones (2020) and published in the year 2020 in the Journal of Eating Disorders, female athletes who showed higher levels of social media use also reported higher levels of body dissatisfaction and disordered eating habits. According to this, additional research appears to be necessary in order to gain a better understanding of the potential adverse effects that social media may have on the mental health and well-being of female athletes.
