Memory Addressing
If byte-addressed, the memory addressing for a computer system with 1MB addressable space needs 20 address lines. This is because the number of uniquely addressable bytes equals 220 (Meyers (2015)). Because each address line corresponds to a power, which when combined gives you the total addressable space. A line of address with either 0 or 1 represents the total addressable space. When this is repeated twenty times and then combined, the total addressable space is 2^20 or 1MB (Rogers & Bauer, 2021). Memory addressing is a method that allows computers to identify the size and range of memory available to them. This helps the system locate and retrieve stored data. References: Meyers, E. (2015).
