Are We Truly Knowledgeable Through Cellphone and Computer Connectivity?

In today’s world, we are constantly connected to our devices, computers, and phones that allow us to “see” the world around us. With this connectivity, however, do we really know more? According to Marshall McLuhan, a pioneer of media studies, “the medium is the message,” meaning that “the form of a medium embeds itself in the message, creating a symbiotic relationship by which the medium influences how the message is perceived” (McLuhan & McLuhan, 2019, p. 8). McLuhan believed that the medium of communication is almost as important, if not more important, than the message itself. In this case, the medium of communication is our cellphones and computers.
