Capstone Project

There are two parts to this Capstone assignment. Please follow APA format for the entire assignment (title page, header, page numbers, double spaced, Times New Roman 12pt font, proper in-text citations and reference list formatting). The length (not including title page or references) should be 5-6 double spaced pages.
PART 1: Policy Development

Using the Case Method Analysis Steps for Developing Policy (Chapter 3), analyze the following situation and come up with a policy statement:

As a high school AD you supervise a large sport program (19 sports) and are determined to be fair to each of the teams. Your problem: six sports (girls field hockey, boys football, and boys and girls soccer, lacrosse, and archery) require practice and game time on the only outdoor field you have. Follow the steps in Exhibit 3.5 (Case Method Analysis Steps for Developing Policy), culminating in writing a policy that (a) covers the use of the field by your teams (you are not in a position to drop any sports), (b) describes the boundaries for using fields off school property, and (c) manages the political situation of the Football Booster Club demanding sole use of the field and the School Principal’s concern for safety of participants leaving the field to go home in the dark.

PART 2: Ethical Decision Making

Use the 11-step Ethical Decision Making model (Chapter 4) to analyze and come up with the decision that you feel is the most ethical based upon the following scenario (NOTE: you do not have to “sleep on it” as the model suggests, but it is not a bad idea to take some time to ensure that this is the best option, and for the 11th step – evaluation – explain how you would assess the decision after the fact, and what would have to occur for you to dub the decision a success or not).

You are the AD at Big State University, a successful NCAA D-I basketball program. Members of your men’s basketball team approach you with a request. They would like to wear warm-up shirts that read “Black Lives Matter” before the next game which is against your biggest traditional rival, Western State University. The game falls at the same night where the local police union is scheduled to be honored at halftime. The players have already talked to the head coach, who supports their actions for this game.
