Chinese art history

(read access instruction below). In doing so, you should combine your notes from the week’s lectures, readings, and the film viewing.  You can address issues derived from the film concerning the subject of art and the Cultural Revolution (1966-76), or any specific aspect of visual culture during the Mao’s communist regime (1949-76).  In other words, take what you have learned and comment analytically and critically – do not just repeat or summarize.  Ideally, you would place them within the issue of “art and politics,” the absolute factor and an unprecedented phenomenon on art production during Mao’s era.  You are also welcome to challenge and pose inquiries that intrigue or puzzle you resulting from the narratives of propaganda campaign and interviews presented in the film and your readings.
