Components of a Wireless Network Wireless networks play an increasingly important role in our lives, allowing for increased mobility and access to data from nearly any location. According to research from the Statistical Analysis System (SAS) Institute, “75 percent of individuals worldwide use a wireless device to access the internet” (Krentz, 2020). A wireless network can be broken down into several different components, each with its own specific purpose. The Router or Access Point is a device which connects two wired networks or provides an access point for a wireless network. These devices typically include a firewall to protect the network’s resources from unauthorized access, DHCP to assign IP addresses to devices, and QoS for optimizing data flow. The Adapter or Client is the device used to connect from the wireless network, such as a laptop, desktop, or mobile device. Antennas are used to send and receive radio signals from the router to the clients in the network. The Wireless Network Protocol, such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, provide a standard way of communication between the adapter and router. Wireless networks provide many advantages to both homes and commercial settings, allowing for easy connection and communication, including data, voice, video, and other applications. As stated by Kleber de Souza Costa, “Wireless networking is increasingly necessary and useful in homes, businesses, and public locations as it provides a cost-effective, secure, and convenient method of communication” (2015). Wireless Network components 

The role of wireless networks is becoming more important in our daily lives. They allow us to be mobile and have access from almost anywhere. Research by the Statistical Analysis System Institute (SAS), shows that 75 percent of people worldwide access the internet via a wireless device (Krentz 2020). There are many parts to a wireless network. Each component has its specific function.   An Access Point, also known as a Router, is a device that links two wireless networks together or serves as an access point for another. These devices typically include a firewall to protect the network’s resources from unauthorized access, DHCP to assign IP addresses to devices, and QoS for optimizing data flow.   The client, or adapter, connects from a wireless network using a mobile, tablet, or desktop device.   The antennas transmit and receive radio signals between the router and clients on the network.  Wireless Network Protocol (such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) is a common way to communicate between adapters and routers.   There are many benefits to wireless networks for both commercial and home settings. Wireless networks allow easy communication with data and voice as well.
