Discuss in detail the different ways of classifying classical cyphers and modern cyphers. Classification of Classical and Modern Ciphers

The classification of Classical and Modern Ciphers

These methods are used for encryption to protect communication. These ciphers are classified according to how they were constructed as classical or modern ciphers. Classical ciphers, which are older versions of encryption, have been used for hundreds of years. Examples of classical ciphers include simple substitution ciphers, transposition ciphers, and the Vigenère cipher (Oppenheim, 2015).  Modern ciphers use advanced encryption methods that were developed in the last century. Examples of modern ciphers include symmetric encryption, such as Data Encryption Standards or Advanced Encryption Standards; public-key cryptography, such as Rivest-Shamir-Adelman; and elliptic curve cryptographic systems (Krawczyk, 2001). They are more secure than traditional ciphers and can be hard to crack.  Newer techniques, such as quantum cryptography, have also been developed to provide even greater security (Ahmed, Tariq &Yedla, 2021). This technique involves the use of quantum bits (or ‘qubits’) to encode information. It is then sent through a quantum channel to ensure that the information can only be accessed by authorized parties. The quantum channel makes it nearly impossible for anyone to access the data.  This allows ciphers to be classified according to how they were constructed. Classical ciphers were older types of encryption. Modern ciphers employ more advanced techniques. Quantum cryptography, the most recent development in encryption techniques provides greater security than ever.   Cont…
