From 2016 to 2021, Critical Exploration of the Possibility Of Life On Mars And Its Magnetic Field

In recent years, the key aspect of Mars exploration has been whether Mars is home to a molten core of iron and a magnetic field. A magnetic field is essential for planet’s potential habitability and development of an atmosphere. Although scientists have not yet been able answer the question definitively, there are a few studies that were conducted in 2016-2020 to shed some light.  Sharma and colleagues conducted a 2016 study. Sharma and colleagues found that Mars’s core is likely to be molten. However, it was not sufficiently large to produce a magnetic field. The Mars Global Surveyor’s gravity and crustal magnetic data provided the basis for this conclusion. Choi, et.al. in 2021 supported this conclusion. They analyzed Mars’ crustal magneticity and concluded that it was not large enough to create a global magnetism field. It has been suggested, however, that Mars may be home to life, even though there is no global magnetic field.
