How Negotiation Can Impact Your Experiences

Negotiation plays a crucial role in problem-solving and is commonly used to solve disputes between multiple parties. Negotiation can sometimes be beneficial for all parties, but it can also be harmful in some instances. When evaluating the effects of negotiation, it is important to consider both the good and bad experiences that may have occurred (Hadar & Cho, 2019, p. 4). Negotiations are designed to achieve a mutually beneficial agreement. Both sides can reach a deal that benefits all. The negotiations between North Korea, the United States, and Japan regarding nuclear disarmament are an example. In 2018, the two countries “agreed to work toward the ‘complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula’ in exchange for a series of economic and political incentives” (Hadar & Cho, 2019, p. 4). Two countries came to an understanding that would be mutually beneficial through successful negotiations. Negative or inefficient negotiation is another possibility. Negotiation can also be inefficient or harmful if the parties are not able to come to an agreement. The process may become costly and time-consuming.
