The COO and CIO at SecNavOne returned from a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) conference and ordered an audit of IT operations. This audit identified several areas of immediate concern, but the CIO wants to focus on reducing the current six month,

IT service backlog (e.g., tickets, fixes, reports, etc.) using a SOA. She also thought it would help improve the versatility of their current systems.

Your job is to help determine if SecNavOne should consider SOA technology to help with the backlog issues and system versatility.

SecNav One has the following systems:

Helpdesk ticketing – custom coded UNIX system, 12 years old
Service scheduling – custom coded Red Hat Linux system, 8 years old

Materials and Inventory Management- custom coded UNIX system, 10 years old

Sales – configured vendor package software, 6 years old

Accounts Payable, Receivables, Finance- configured vendor package software, 8 years old

Customer Relationship Management- configured vendor package software, 1 year old
HR- ASP Web-based application, 2 years old

Integration between the applications is managed by Cloverleaf, a UNIX solution.

Most business processes are documented, but only the materials management business processes are actively monitored.

Application support staff is grouped by application; integration of development efforts is typically strained for enterprise-wide development efforts.

Your feasibility analysis must include and explain, at least two, advantages and, at least two, disadvantages of implementing a SOA at SecNavOne.
