The Feminist Perspective on the Prevention of Rape

Feminist perspectives on rape prevention stress the importance of addressing the root causes and shifting the emphasis from the perpetrators to the social structures and cultural norms which enable or condone it (Ullman 2022). According to this view, rape isn’t an exception or an outcome of individual disease but rather a product of patriarchy as well as the systematic oppression and abuse of women. Feminists believe that rape prevention should aim to dismantle oppressive systems as well as promote equality of gender. It is important to socialize boys so that they are able to challenge toxic masculinity as well as teach them respect for the rights and dignity of others, regardless of their gender. It is important to teach boys how to reject negative cultural messages that tell them what it means to “be a real man” (Ullman 2022).
