What are the Characteristics Of Competent Communication?

It is essential for everyday living, but it can sometimes be hard to master. As outlined in Chapter 1 of Reflect and Communicate, the characteristics of competent communication include being clear, concise, and accurate; being able to listen actively; having the ability to ask meaningful questions; and being able to read others’ nonverbal cues. Effective communication requires me to recognize my weaknesses and learn from them. Communication is my strength. I have the ability to ask questions that are meaningful and clear (Headlee 2018, 2018). Open-ended, thoughtful questions are what I aim to ask. They also help me to understand the topic. In my conversations, I always try to make it clear and concise. This helps me and the other person I’m speaking with get along better. My weaknesses are in communication, such as my difficulty understanding and using nonverbal communication (Headlee 2018, 2018). My nonverbal communication skills are poor, especially facial expressions. I also often misunderstand social cues which would help me communicate more easily.
