This TED talk holds a powerful message about the power of storytelling, and after watching it, reflect on a story of your own you’d like to share.

To inspire you and get you in a narrative state of speaking for your upcoming narrative speeches.

After watching the TED talk, write a story of your own. Only share a story you are comfortable sharing. In line with learning about conflict and watching the TED talk, this is a story that in sharing, you feel empowered by something that happened “to you” in your life.

The things that happen to us happen out of our control. We don’t like telling these stories for that reason-because we like stories where we are in control.

Take some time to think about a story you would like to tell. The story should be one of you overcpoming a conflict. Write the story as though you are a character in the story-this helps tell the story. For example: This is a story about Erika when she was nine years old…

At the end of your story, tell the ending the way you want the story to end. Now that you are in control, telling this story of something that happened out of your control, how would you (re)write the ending? Essentially, what has this conflict taught you? What in you has it allowed to grow?
