Organisations must make security investments throughout the life of their company, especially in the long term. Incorrectly, many leaders view security investments as an investment that won’t produce tangible results. They advocate for an immediate approach to security where assets can only be secured when they are needed. Unfortunately, this can lead to a host of security problems that may prove costly to organizations over time (Farmer & Linden, 2015).  To understand how security is important in long-term strategies, CEOs and CFOs need to be aware of the evolving nature of cyber threats. Organizations must stay up to date with security tools and protocols in order to be able defend themselves against sophisticated attacks by cyber attackers (Grosse 2002). Security investments made on an annual basis are crucial to reduce the threat of cyber attacks, protect system integrity and prevent loss of profit due to them.  Cost optimization may also be possible with long-term investment in security technology. Regular updates to security systems can help organizations reduce risk and danger levels. In turn, this will lower security operations expenses over the long-term (Lunt D.F. (2015)). Organizations that invest in security can store and process sensitive data more efficiently, which could lead to customer satisfaction and trust (Camhi N.2021).  Organizations must recognize that long-term security investment is essential to stay safe and protected from cyber attacks.
