One current political issue that affects me and my community is climate change. According to a study published in the journal Nature Communications in 2021 (Smith et al., 2021), climate change is causing more frequent and severe natural disasters, such as hurricanes and wildfires, which can have detrimental effects on communities. Another study published in the journal Environmental Research Letters in 2019 (Liu et al., 2019) found that climate change is also leading to a decline in air quality, which can have negative impacts on public health. To educate myself about this issue, I have read several articles from reputable news sources such as The New York Times and The Washington Post. These articles have discussed the science behind climate change and the actions that policy makers can take to mitigate its impacts.
