It has had a more prominent effect on communities, such as the: LGBT community, black community, and the Hispanic and Latino communities. For the black community, it has been a large issue that has impacted not only black men but also black queer people. According to [Black Men Impacts], COVID and the combination of obesity, heart diseases, hypertension, drug overdoses, and diabetes has created a syndemic, this is when two or more epidemics interact in a way that worsens a person’s condition. This has caused the life expectancy of black men to lower by three years, which is a much wider gap than any other racial and ethnic group. Black queer people have also been severely affected by the pandemic. Queer black people have been one of, if not the largest group of queer people who have been impacted by the pandemic. A report from [LGBTQIA Impacts] mentions that 95% of queer black people stated that they or someone who they know experienced serious financial troubles. Not only have queer people been impacted by the pandemic, but many of them have already been struggling financially before this pandemic. Many queer people lost their jobs during this pandemic as their jobs are the ones that have been impacted the most such as healthcare, retail, and restaurants, three places that have faced cuts during the pandemic. Queer people don’t often have the same support of family members that many cisgender and heterosexual people may have, they don’t have the support system to fall back onto if they lose their job. The Hispanic and Latino communities are one of the two communities that have also faced serious consequences in this pandemic. Solely in California, Latinos make up 39% of the population, the largest ethnic group in the state. [Latinx Impacts Two] states that many Latinos live in multigenerational homes, sometimes even living in houses that have more residents than they do rooms. As Latinos tend to live in crowded places, it’s much more likely to spread COVID in these communities compared to others. Another reason why COVID has severely impacted this community is that many Latinx people work in places where you can’t work from home or be socially distanced from others. Many Latinx people are essential workers, they’re the ones who work in the fields as agricultural workers, grocery stores, manufacturing plants. Latinos who live in California are 8.1 times much more likely to be exposed to the virus and have a COVID rate three times higher than white Californians [Latinx Impacts One]. Another thing that poses such a huge risk for Latinx people, is that they’re also much less likely to get tested for COVID or get vaccinated, as many people hold the fear that they might be experimented on like women from Puerto Rico who were in a very controversial study. It’s a generational trauma that has been passed down, and the only way to be able to help the Latino community is to help them and communicate in a way that they can benefit and learn from. 2. I’m a part of two of the groups that I’ve mentioned above, I’m both Hispanic and queer. I know that my family has struggled quite a bit during the last three years.  My family has had to send money to family members in Mexico various times within the last three years as they’re facing a much tougher situation than us with this pandemic. Many of them have either been exposed to COVID or have gotten it, and it has been a struggle for them to even get the opportunity to be vaccinated. [Women Impacts] states that many women have had to leave their jobs to care for their children during the pandemic, and luckily I was able to step up and make sure my then five-year-old niece was showing up to her online classes. The last, and biggest reason as to why I’ve faced challenges in this pandemic is because many of my family members are essential workers. My sister for example being a home caregiver and working with elderly people, she has been exposed to COVID various times throughout this pandemic and has seen her patients pass away due to this. My father and brother are both construction workers who once again, don’t have the ability to work from home or to even socially distance themselves at work, I worry for them every day. so this is what you will reply too how to reply to itCompare and contrast your own thoughts with a peer.
