A Virtual Private Network is Safer than Public Wi-Fi

The Safety of a Virtual Private Network in a Public Wi-Fi Environment   A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a secure connection that is typically used by remote workers to access a private network or intranet (Scarlet, 2015). It is a preferred connection because it allows users to securely transfer confidential information. But, if a VPN is installed in an area with public Wi-Fi it can pose a risk to the security of the connection.  Because everyone connected to the Wi-Fi network can access the same router, public Wi Fi network infrastructure is not under the control of users (Digit. 2021). If hackers are using the same Wi Fi network they can potentially intercept data including passwords. Scarlet (2015). Organisations don’t always keep their networks up-to-date, which increases the chance of security breaches (Contreras 2017).   The lack of security updates and control over shared infrastructure makes it difficult to ensure safety for a Virtual Private Network within a public Wi Fi environment.
