Need help on Questions to Section B.

. Just need help answering Section B. Thanks 1. Which one did you choose? Why this character? Why didn’t you choose the others? Since the situation forced the sacrifice of one person to leave the boat, every passenger was considered important but the sacrifice was to be made. Lieutenant Ashley Morganstern is the person chosen to leave the boat. This is because he is young, strong and well prepared to endure the tough condition for a longer time. Perhaps he could arrive before he wears out. Marie was not chosen because she is expectant and could not swim. Dr. Brown seems old and not strong enough to endure the deep ocean waters. Sam knows a lot about the ocean and sailing and was instrumental in helping the captain. Letty is just an assistant and therefore no information of what he could achieve under the situation so he is saved. 2. As you read, you probably imagined what the characters looked like. From the image you had of them, describe the following characters in a few sentences:
The Captain The captain displays characteristics of a calm, responsible individual who is probably a little proud and charming too. This is by judging his reaction to the incident. He can be described as strong and muscular from handling his boat. Dr. Brown Dr. Brown passes off as short, bold headed and a charming individual with a broad smile that shows off his personality. He is probably old enough to have grey hair and may also be wearing glasses. He is a active problem solver and a responsible guy. Marie Brown Marie Brown is obviously plum with a big belly from her pregnancy. She is seen to be very expressive of her fears and extremely distressed. She is shorter than everyone else. Her character can be described as reserved and less talkative. Lieutenant Ashley Morganstern The officer musty is a straight standing gentleman, tall as per the police standards and medium built with broad shoulders and noticeable muscles. He is also a serious chap who rarely laughs and seems a quick problem solver.
Letty Letty is slim, smart and serious. His position as an assistant, positions him as a very quiet guy, who is dressed less dramatically and had a quiet personality. He is also quite emotional as he denies the captain from making the sacrifice to swim. Eagle-Eye Sam Sam can be described as sharp, observative and quiet. He says or does very little to be well pictured but he must be strong bodied. 3. Do you think Dr. Brown is related to Marie Brown? If so, how? Dr. Brown seems to be the husband of Marie Brown. The pregnancy seems to link them up with the help of their last names being the exact same.
Section B 1. Compare your responses in question with your classmates. Discuss the reasons for your decisions. Is there consensus in the group on any of the characters or decisions? 2. Do you all agree on the relationship between Dr. Brown and Marie Brown? 3. What evidence is there in the story to support your answer about the Brown’s relationship? 4. Look at your portraits for Dr. Brown (or any other character). How many assumptions did you and your group members amke about the doctor’s age, gender, appearance, and profesion? What evidence is there in the story to support your images and profiles? If your images are similar, what do you think accounts for that similarity? Are your mental images similar to ones we normally see in the media? 5. Think about the role of stereotypes in your decision. How do stereotypes keep us from making accurate decisions in everyday life? Is it possible not to make assumptions about people and situations until we get the complete context?
