The Glacial Features of Hole-In-The-Wall Glacier

Hole-In-The-Wall Glacier is a unique landscape located in the Chugach National Forest of Alaska. The oblique image of the glacier reveals a variety of glacial features, each with its own distinct characteristics. The features, denoted by the letters A, B, C, and D, are a crevasse, medial moraine, lateral moraine, and terminal moraine respectively (James, 2019). A crevasse is a deep fissure in the ice of a glacier, typically formed by tension from the movement of the glacier and other associated forces. The crevasse featured in the image (denoted by A) is a large and prominent feature, clearly visible due to its sharp contrast with the surrounding ice. Medial moraines are ridges of rock and sediment which are formed when two or more glaciers merge. The moraine featured in the image (denoted by B) is a narrow and curved line running down the center of the glacier  (James, 2019). It is likely the result of the merger of two smaller glaciers.
