Poverty

Part 1: Poverty Essay
The issue of client poverty and how to serve the working poor will be something you, as a social worker, will experience often during your career.  Think about the populations and issues we have covered up until this point in the semester.  Consider the following:

What barriers do people encounter when trying to “get out” of poverty?
In what ways do you believe that we, as social workers, can better serve clients who are locked in a cycle of poverty?
How does trauma impact poverty and poor outcomes for clients?  What can the approach of “Trauma Informed Care” tell us about stopping the cycle of poverty.
How do micro, mezzo and macro issues impact individuals, agencies, systems and policies that are trying to work on issues of poverty?
What do “isms” have to do with social economics (racism, sexism, classism, etc.)?
How will you address poverty as you pursue your social work career?

You must have at least 3 sources for your essay.  Sources must be cited in your text (either paraphrased or quoted) and be on your reference page in correct APA format.  Utilize your textbook as one of your sources.  Utilize additional current research materials such as: current journal articles, local news stories, national poverty data, etc. in this essay and cite your sources.  Please attach a short essay (at least 6 pages including Title Page and Reference Page) that discusses client poverty and the social work response at a micro, mezzo and macro level.  Essay must be in APA format with title and reference page, no abstract required.
