Semantics is a branch of linguistics concerned with the meanings of words, phrases and sentences. There are three main types of semantic analysis: compositional semantics, cognitive semantics, and formal semantics. Compositional semantics uses formulas and rules to analyze the meanings of words and phrases by combining them into larger units. This approach focuses on understanding any part of a sentence that could be rearranged, such as nouns, verbs, and adjectives. An advantage of this approach is that the context of sentences is taken into account and it can lead to more detailed interpretations (Mavridi, 2016). Cognitive semantics examines words from a psychological perspective, looking at how humans acquire and acquire language (Yu & Kuipers, 2018). This approach stresses how language conveys meanings based on the individual, environment, and context of a conversation. The advantage of this is that meanings can be expanded to include cultural, emotional, and meaningful elements beyond words. Formal semantics uses mathematical logic to define the meaning of words and phrases. This approach has the advantage of being able to make precise statements about the meaning and interpretation of sentences (Kuhn, 2020). However, it can be difficult to apply it to everyday situations and to come up with illustrative examples. They include compositional semantics and cognitive semantics.   Compositional sem uses rules and formulae to determine the meanings of phrases and words by grouping them together into larger units.
