Habitat for Humanity Worldwide, also known as Habitat for Humanity or simply Habitat, is the organization I chose to evaluate. Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity is a not-for-profit, ecumenical Christian ministry that builds with and serves the needy (Baggett, 2001). The group is independent of race, ethnicity or creed. They welcome volunteers from all walks of life, races, and creeds (Baggett, 2001). They have approximately 1,400 affiliates in the United States and 70 national organizations worldwide (Baggett, 2001). At this very moment, they have helped 6.8 million people improve their housing conditions.
The Neighborhood Services Department is one of many very important departments of Habitat for Humanity. The Brandeis Habitat for Humanity chapter is dedicated to ending homelessness through advocacy, education, and volunteerism. They work with Family Items at the community level to help build homes for those in need. They work together regionally and statewide to arrange properties for day-to-day work and alternative travel during spring break. Volunteers generally do not require any construction knowledge. They conduct awareness campaigns on campus, engage with the Brandeis community, and change insurance policies and policies that contribute to housing instability. This sector will be the focus of our strategic planning, as well as the following plans with the Brandeis community (Baggett, 2001)…
