Answer

Primary and secondary Succession

Primary succession refers to the establishment of a community in an unoccupied, or previously vacant area. There are many reasons why the area could be dead. One reason could be that the area is devoid of soil or has soil that does not support life. A glacial till is an example of primary succession. The underlying rock is revealed as the glaciers melt. The seeds of the plants are derived from species found in the landscape.

The opposite is secondary succession. This occurs when an area has been occupied previously. But, because of a disturbance the community vanishes. Floods, fire and logging are all examples of disturbances. A wildfire can lead to secondary succession. Many of the communities are destroyed by the fire. However, the nutrients that they have returned to the ground make it possible for new ones to form.

Theory of island geogeography.

Two ecologists Edward O. Wilson and Robert MacArthur, established the theory of island biology in 1963. According to this theory, the diversity of the species living in an island community is determined by the pace of their immigration.
