What are the differences between a frame and a packet? The Differences between Frame and Packet

What are the differences between Frame and Packet?

Data communication uses two types of tranmission protocols: a packet and a frame. In general, packets and frames are used at layer 2 of the OSI protocol. Frames are typically used at layer 3 while packets are used in layer 4 at layer 5. Frames are protocols at the data link layer that encapsulate packets and place control bits to provide error control, address and synchronization. A packet, however, uses a network layer protocol (Okello and Zafar, 2018) to extract data from an upper layer. It then adds header information, address, and data transport to the destination.  They differ at each stage and layer. Frames are in the physical layer sense, while packets are the OSI model packet (Standing & Gardner 2015). Frames have a fixed length, while packets can be of variable length. Also, it is easier to recover errors from packets, since each packet is sent separately, unlike frames, which are sequentially sent and correlated (Jain et. al., 2002).  The two main protocols for transporting data are frames and packets. Both differ in their structure and point of transmission.  References  Hafeez, M, and Zafar, S. (2018). IEEE 802.11 Wi Fi Networks: Analytical and Experimental Evaluation.
