Dynamic scoping refers to a method of scoping which uses the state in the call stack as a basis for determining variables visible at runtime. These scoping methods can lead to performance issues, which are discussed in the next sections.   First of all, dynamic scoping may be more time-consuming and resource-intensive that static scoping. Because dynamic scoping involves traversing the call stack in order to find variables visible, it can be slower and more resource-intensive than static scoping. In large programs that have a complicated call stack, this can cause slower processing (Mukhopadhyay 2015).  Dynamic scoping may also lead to confusing behavior. Variables that were visible in one place of the code might not be visible anymore due to changes on the stack. It can make it difficult for developers to maintain and debug applications (Rowan and Thanachareon 2021).  The third reason is that dynamic scoping may increase the memory needed. Because the call stack needs to be stored in memory, this can lead to large memory footprints. In memory-limited settings, this can cause decreased performance (Mukhopadhyay 2015).  Dynamic scoping may have several performance consequences, such as increased processing time, higher memory requirements and confused behavior.
