A Goldilocks planet, also known as a “habitable zone” or “circumstellar habitable zone,” is a region in a star system where a planet is located in just the right location for liquid water to exist on the planet’s surface. This is the area in which temperatures are neither too hot nor too cold, but instead “just right” for liquid water to exist (Lammer, 2016). This region is also known as the “habitable zone” since it provides the necessary conditions for life. The Goldilocks planet concept has been around since the late 1950s and has been used by NASA and other space agencies since then to identify and study planets that may be suitable for life (Kane & Gelino, 2019). In addition to having the right temperature for liquid water, a Goldilocks planet must also have the right atmosphere, the right amount of liquid water, the right chemistry, and the right amount of energy from its star.
