The G1/S phase Cyclin Dependent Kinase (CDK) family are important regulators of the transition from the G1 to S phase of the cell cycle. They are responsible for the timely activation of events that occur during this transition, such as the phosphorylation of the S phase CDK Inhibitor (CDKi). Evidence suggests that G1/S phase CDKs play a crucial role in the regulation of S phase CDKi (Koshiyama et al., 2016). Studies have shown that G1/S phase CDKs can phosphorylate S phase CDKi and inhibit its activity (Koshiyama et al., 2016). The phosphorylation of S phase CDKi by G1/S phase CDKs leads to the inhibition of its activity and prevents the cell from entering the S phase prematurely (Gonzalez-Lopez et al., 2018). This ensures the proper progression of the cell cycle and helps maintain the integrity of the cell.
