Exploring Variations in Earth and Saturn’s Densities

Earth and Saturn are two planets in the Solar System that differ greatly in terms of mass, size, and composition. One of the most notable variations between these two planets is the difference in their densities. In general, Earth’s density is much higher than that of Saturn’s, as it is composed of much denser material. This can be attributed to the fact that Earth is much larger, composed of mostly silicate rocks, and its interior is made up of a much hotter and denser core made of iron and nickel (McKay, 2017). On the other hand, Saturn is much less dense than Earth due to its lower mass, larger size, and composition. Saturn is composed of mostly hydrogen and helium gas, and due to its lower gravity, it is able to retain much of its gaseous form (University of Illinois, 2020). Additionally, Saturn also has a much less dense core made of rock and ice, which further contributes to its lower density when compared to Earth.
