Microbial Profile – Adenovirus

Adenoviruses are non-enveloped, icosahedral, medium-sized (90–100 nm) viruses with double-stranded DNA. Human infection can be caused by more than 50 immunologically distinct adenovirus types (Pied & Wodrich, 2019). Adenoviruses can be found on surfaces such as doorknobs, objects, and the water in swimming pools and small lakes. They are relatively resistant to commercially available disinfectants.
