Dual-core machines can provide many benefits to performance. These include faster execution times, higher throughput and lower execution time. It is important to determine the degree of parallelism within the application before deciding if it’s worth the investment in a dual core machine. The core frequency necessary to maintain the same performance level for an application that is 60% parallelizable would be reduced if it were. The reason is that core frequency can increase, which means more processor times are available to the app. This allows threads to be executed in a logic-based way and in an efficient manner.   The power budget that is allocated to core frequency might be reduced by up to 2 in such an instance (Hofstee 2015). The majority of the application can be parallelized, so having more processor cores could reduce core frequency.
